Join us for Owen's annual Walk4BrainCancer to raise much-needed funds for brain cancer research.
Join us for a 4km walk, meeting at Owen Bowling Club and help raise awareness and funds for brain cancer research.
We’ll meet at Owen Bowling Club before taking on a 4km walk for Walk4BrainCancer 2023, hosted by Tania and Wayne in memory of their son, Max.
“In 2009 our son Max was diagnosed with 2 x brain tumors (PNET) 2 months before his 9th birthday. Within days of the diagnosis Max had surgery to remove the first tumor. The second surgery followed a week later. Treatment consisted of radiotherapy and chemotherapy. During this time Max had to learn to walk and talk again. Max eventually recovered from the effects of treatment. He was able to return to school and playing sport.
Then in 2018, at 17 years of age, Max suddenly and unexpectedly passed away. An autopsy showed that the cancer had returned. Max’s death devastated us but we are grateful that we had Max with us for almost 9 years, after his initial diagnosis. In that time we enjoyed a number of family holidays and created lots of wonderful memories. We decided to host a walk to raise awareness for this disease that has affected not only our family but a number of other local families .” – Tania Heaslip
